A certified food grade product, Sodium Hydroxide, has numerous uses in the food industry. These include washing and chemical peeling of produce, processing chocolate and cocoa, creating caramel coloring, scalding poultry, soft drink production, and as a thickening agent for ice cream.

Sodium Hydroxide, also known as Caustic Soda or Lye, is a very versatile ingredient and has a great many uses, including:

• Soap - making - when reacted with vegetable oils or animal fats
• Personal care products - to adjust pH
  Hair relaxers - combined with detergents
• Aluminium etching
• Brewery cleaners - combined with detergents
• Paint stripping
• Paper making
• Dyeing - to adjust pH
• Tanning - to remove hair from hides and to adjust pH
• Household surface cleansers - combined with detergents
• Oven cleaners
• Drain cleaning - use straight sodium hydroxide to unclog drains
• Chemical reactions
• Biodiesel production - sodium hydroxide plus plant oils

Safety Information
Caution – Sodium Hydroxide is highly corrosive to skin, eyes and many materials. Keep out of the reach of children.  Avoid all contact with skin and eyes, wearing chemical resistant gloves, eye protection, long sleeved shirt and pants when handling. Store tightly closed in the original packaging. Store away from oxidizing agents, reducing agents, metals, acids, alkalis and moisture.
